Frégate Island’s unique attributes – such as its peaceful setting; the abundance of nature; its character and charm; the highly successful ecological program; the award winning Rock Spa; and an outstanding gourmet experience with island-grown produce - make it a paradise for nature lovers, honeymooners and families.
Exclusivity in every respect is the maxim of Frégate Island and the preservation and protection of the island’s unique flora and fauna is one of its proudest achievements.
With 16 villas, only a selected number of guests have the prestige to fulfil their dream of a stay in paradise. The island remains private to Frégate guests only, making it an ideal refuge for the discerning traveller, ensuring the rare feeling of a truly tropical island paradise.
Hotel Accommodation
Frégate has 16 villas, restricting the number of guests to a maximum of 40 at any one time. The island remains exclusive to its guests - with each villa positioned to ensure ultimate privacy.
The villas are built of native mahogany and blend harmoniously into the natural surroundings. The tropical feel of the buildings is deliberately casual. Each villa has a large terrace with a day bed and jacuzzi as an extension of the living area. The light and spacious interior houses colonial-style furniture and state-of-the-art technology.
Each Villa has its own sun terrace; private infinity pool with Jacuzzi, an adjacent daybed and dining pavilion, with spectacular ocean views, overlooking fine sand beaches. The Villas, decorated by the
renowned American interior design firm Wilson & Associates, blend with the surroundings and are positioned so that privacy is guaranteed. Two villas built, with the needs of families with children in mind, stand on sheltered meadows while the other villas are built into the cliffs.
Each villa has 300-400 square metres and includes a living room, a large bedroom, two bathrooms, terrace, infinity pool and pavilion. Hand-carved wood, precious silk and Egyptian cotton create a cosy atmosphere. Integrated glass walls in various rooms allow
for a view of the ocean, the sky and the surrounding vegetation. The private sun terrace, with adjustable sunshade, beckons guests to spend their days and evenings outside.
Hotel Restaurants and Bars
The Plantation House turns is a romantic restaurant serving traditional Creole dishes and island specialities. This historical building evokes memories of the island's past and is a wonderful venue for open air dining.
The alternative dining venue is Frégate House, where a gourmet menu features the Chef's daily selection of local produce. Dining is available on the lower terrace and also in the restaurant. Guests can also dine in the privacy of their own villa or at the Beach Bar at Anse Bambous.
BARS
The Pirate’s Bar and Anse Bambous Beach Bar are offering light snacks and drinks at lunch and dinner. In addition to the two restaurants, guests can enjoy lunch or dinner in the tree house, barbecues on the beach or at the yacht club.
WINE CELLAR
Our wine cellar competes with the most famous hotel restaurants in the world and offer guests a variety of wines from all around the globe, including
important labels, varietal and vineyards. These wines are also offered for wine tastings.
The wine cellar also offers a dining facility for a group of up to 10 guests.
Hotel Activities and Entertainment
Frégate Island offers a host of activities in and under the water.
Swimming pools: Two swimming pools are available below Frégate House on the way to Anse Bambous – the spectacular 25m Active Pool and a romantic Relaxation Pool. A third plunge pool is located at the Rock Spa for guest use during treatments, and each villa is equipped with its own infinity pool.
There are seven beaches - one of which, Anse Victorin, is renowned as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
Discover another world while snorkeling, explore the ocean aboard a hobie cat or kayak, go game fishing aboard the island's launches, Fregate Bird and Little Fregate or take a boat trip to explore a remote island.
For those who prefer to stay ashore there is a fully equipped gym and an extensive library. Guests can also climb Mount Signal, with a summit of 125 metres, or enjoy a bird's-eye view of the Seychelles aboard a helicopter or a small aircraft.
Other Sports: Tennis, volleyball, badminton, bocce ball, mountain biking, yoga and jogging. A library, with a large selection of books in various languages, videos and CD’s, is open to guests.
Hotel Children Information
The Castaway Club is for children between 5 to 12 years of age. The Castaway Clubhouse is the meeting place for Frégate Island's Castaway kids. Importantly, it is a platform to educate and teach the children (and parents) about the environment and conservation of the natural heritage. This is a rustic structure above Frégate House, and it's from here that all the activities will be co-ordinated. The clubhouse offers games, videos, craft material, books and much more.
Hotel Additional Guest Services
THE SPA
The Rock Spa is a haven of serenity, perched on a cliff-top plateau overlooking the sea.
Entered through a granite canyon, flanked by freshwater pools and cascading waterfalls, the spa celebrates the island's unique surroundings and embraces all elements of nature.
The finest holistic treatments from all over the world use ancient techniques from India, Australia and Polynesia with botanical treatments prepared from local ingredients.
Afterwards, relax with a glass of cool coconut milk, champagne or tea with fresh lemongrass and enjoy the view from the spa's sublime vantage point high above the Indian Ocean.
THE MARINA
Fregate's Yacht Club, Marina and PADI Dive Centre are situated on the lower plateau of the island, opposite the plantation.
Sailing and motorboats take guests to the numerous dive sites around the island. The marina overlooks a turquoise lagoon, protected by a small reef which restricts the waves and makes the beach here particularly safe for swimmers, snorkellers and beginner divers.
Transfer to Hotel
Reached by helicoptor or small plane from Mahe, transfers take approximately 30 minutes.
Hotel Local Attractions
Frégate Island has its own source of freshwater and most of the fruit, vegetables, salads and herbs consumed on the island are homegrown.
In addition to an abundance of naturally growing mangos, papayas, guava, bilimbi (related to star fruit), coconuts, melons and bananas, a team of gardeners cultivate a wide range of organic produce in the island's plantation and Hydroponics House.
Guests can see all the produce growing first hand and savour the distinct aromas of coffee plants, mint, cashew apples and vanilla - a creeping plant found on many of the island's trees.
Produce is harvested daily and the resort's Chef places a firm emphasis on simplicity to maximize the food's natural goodness.
NATURE
Frégate Island is home to some of the world's rarest
flora & fauna.
A total of 14 bird species are resident and breeding on Frégate including the magpie robin, downlisted from 'critically endangered' in 2005 largely as a result of the island's conservation actions.
Frégate is also home to a wild herd of more than 400 Aldabra Giant Tortoises, one of only three wild-roaming populations left in the Seychelles. Lucky guests may even witness a turtle laying her eggs in the sand, or the spectacle of up to 60 newly hatched baby turtles disappearing into the Indian Ocean at full moon. The Hawksbill turtle and Green turtle, both critically endangered, are also frequent visitors to the shores of the island for nesting and egg-laying.
Frégate has many varied and fascinating indigenous insects, in particular two species that are exclusively endemic to the island: the flightless Giant Tenebrionid beetle and the Enid snail.
The island's only native mammal is the 'Flying Fox', which survives solely on fruit, found in abundance in Frégate's lush tropical forests amongst species ranging from the rare Coco de Mer palm to the giant Banyan Tree.
